Speakers Discuss Strategies to Accelerate Market Adoption of Heat Pumps Amid Slowdown

The panel discussion focuses on strategies to re-accelerate the market for heat pumps, considering their wide range of applications from single-unit homes to large industrial projects. The speakers emphasize addressing technical and physical challenges in existing buildings where implementing solutions like heat pumps is currently unfeasible. LG's mission involves providing access across various building types, while Vanessa discusses leveraging energy savings certificates and additional discounts to make new technologies more appealing amidst dwindling subsidies. One speaker highlights the importance of aligning with decarbonization goals by integrating industry expertise into broader climate initiatives and stresses the role of incentives for early-stage technology adoption. An audience question about electric boilers reveals that while they serve as competitors to heat pumps due to similar functionality, synergies exist between them, particularly in industrial settings where both can complement each other effectively. Overall, policies and incentives are deemed crucial for driving market growth and meeting decarbonization targets efficiently.

Photovoltaic prices have fallen continuously in recent years - a trend that should translate into a growing market for off-grid solutions. Declining costs are crucial for rural electrification in particular, making sustainable energy supply economically viable in remote regions. However, so far many of these price advantages have not yet reached the people that need them most. Do existing framework conditions to foster rural electrification still work in this new market reality? Which measures are needed to ensure that cost reductions reach our target group? This session discusses strategies for improving the availability of low-cost off-grid solutions, financing and innovative business models. A look at successful practical examples shows which political, economic and technological levers need to be pulled to make off-grid PV accessible on a large scale.
