Recording of Tuesday, June 18, 2024 | The smarter E Europe 2024 | Conference Program | Language: English | Duration: 19:05 .
The speaker's talk focuses on the data structure aspect of digital twins within an integrated EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) and O&M (Operations and Maintenance) company. The presentation introduces "Entity," their digital twin platform, detailing use cases at various implementation stages. These include digitizing central plan groups, a research project called IPV Pro for integrating monitoring with maintenance via a digital twin, and everyday work involving failure detection tools. Enmova was established in 2021 as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems to optimize O&M of PV power plants through projects like Optom. Since becoming part of Central Plan group in 2024, Enmova has expanded its focus from developing platforms to performing monitoring tasks directly. For effective data management in Entity, flexibility is key due to constantly evolving requirements. Inspired by concepts like Orange Button and trustee PV risk matrixes for structuring large datasets efficiently using methods such as PVSYS industry standards over traditional Zenit approaches were adopted. Currently managing about 650 systems primarily based out of Germany and targeting over 1,000 by year-end, Enmova leverages Google Cloud’s BigQuery with SQL Alchemy to ensure effective schema management and maintain code reusability. The system connects seamlessly with Excel, which remains prevalent across industries, aiming for coherent integration. This facilitates optimal financial and operational decision-making throughout the entire lifecycle, offering holistic solutions that dynamically align with client needs. By adopting these methods, Enmova is paving the way for future-ready, sustainable pathways.

The utility-scale segment is being digitized at a rapid pace. New digital tools make workflows along the PV power plant value chain more cost-effective: from development to operations and maintenance. A key concept in PV digitalization is the so-called digital twin, a digital representation of the physical PV plant that accurately simulates the performance of a solar system. A digital twin enables better failure detection and support of the O&M decision-making process. This session will discuss: The role of digitalization and digital twins in the solar power plant sector How digitalization can enhance O&M activities Need for full integration of data along the value chain of PV power plants Benefits, drawbacks and hurdles for digitalization in the utility-scale segment (panel debate).
